Big change in Auction Purse

A major change has been made regarding the auction purse, due to which the auction purse has now been increased to Rs 120 crore, which means now each franchise will have a budget of Rs 120 crore to build a team.  After forming the team, the franchises will enter the mega auction with the money that is left.  The IPL 2024 auction purse was Rs 100 crore, whereas for IPL 2025, the auction purse has been increased by the authority to Rs 120 crore i.e. Rs 20 crore, which is said to be the biggest change in the IPL 2024 retention rule.

According to the IPL 2025 retention rules, each franchise will be given an auction purse of Rs 120 crore, out of which the amount will be deducted as the first three retentions for the five capped players to form a team of six players, under which Rs 18 crore for the first player,  Rs 14 crore for the second player and Rs 11 crore for the third player will be deducted from the auction purse of the franchise.

Taking this process forward and for the remaining two retentions, Rs 18 crore for the fourth player and Rs 14 crore for the fifth player will be deducted from the franchise’s auction purse. Rs 4 crore will be deducted from the franchise’s auction purse for the uncapped player.  If seen, out of the auction purse of Rs 120 crore, Rs 79 crore will already be deducted, due to which the franchise will be left with only Rs 41 crore during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.

Impact player rule will continue

According to the impact player rule, one player from the 11 team is substituted and the 12th player is given a chance to play, but this rule has been opposed by former players and franchises because they say that it restricts the development of the all-rounder.  But the authority still continued it. According to the authority, the impact player rule will continue till IPL 2027.

Big change in injury replacement rules

In IPL 2024, the franchise had to find a replacement for its injured player till the seventh match of the season, but according to the retention rule of IPL 2025, now the franchise can find a replacement for its injured player till the 12th match of the season.
